2008 ROCKS!

About a month ago Vance and I decided that in 2008 we were going to get out more, as in OUTSIDE!! It's something that has been kinda tough for us to do ever since Kelsey and Whitney showed up, lol. But don't worry, we're glad they're here despite the lack of outdoor adventure in our lives ;)

For Christmas I even bought Vance a 10-punch rock climbing pass to help invite some open-air thrill into our lives (which is comical seeing how rock gyms are indoor, lol).

And then... something totally unexpected happened. We got a phone call from Sandy (Vance's cousin) and her husband Pete last night. They just happened to be in Vegas for New Years and invited us to go climbing with them in Red Rock Canyon, which is practically in our backyard.

As you can see, Vance was in heaven being outside again :)

After our hike in, we set up a spot for the girls to play while Pete and Sandy set up the climb. It was a little chilly, but the girls had plenty of dirt, snacks and even handwarmers to keep them happy for awhile (thanx a million Sandy!).

The climb we did was rated 5.9, so it's a good thing they were with us because neither Vance or myself are capable of leading a climb (YET that is!). Unfortunately we only had time for one climb each because Whitney started getting cranky, but it was an absolute blast anyway :)

Here's a pic of Sandy belaying Pete up the wall.

And here I am making my way up, slowly but surely.

Yes! I LOVE it :)

Here's Pete belaying me. Yeah... I took a couple of breaks but I made it to the top, lol.

And Vance climbing!

As it got colder Kelsey was lucky enough to borrow Sandy's hat and coat :)

She's a nut :) And very curious!

After our climb we headed into town and stopped at In-N-Out Burger. It totally hit the spot!

Here's Whitney happy to be inside a warm building with plenty to eat and drink :)

Vance and Kelsey after dinner.

So basically 2008 could not have started out better for us! Thanx so much to Pete and Sandy for coming down and letting us spend the day with them. We had an incredible time and can't wait to do it again! Good times as always :)

More outdoor adventures to follow shortly...

Sounds like fun! I love all the pictures with the red rock - I haven't seen red rock in a couple years now!

Looks like an awesome trip, and beautiful photos. How many breaks did Vance take? How far away is that from your place? We'll have to check it out next time we come visit in Vegas.

And, it sounds like you had some awesome time up in Utah for Christmas!

By the way, we've often thought the same thing about toys and imagination... I think you do what you feel good about and the kidlets take over from there! That evil spider seemed very familiar to one of the episodes of Eli Land that I've observed with little Elijah! Encourage that creativity and imagination... need it in this world we live in, don't we? :)
